This page is intended to guide you to relevant information, both for and against the ideas around Foundation Trusts. We don’t necessarily endorse all these sites. The coalition government tried to present Foundation Trusts as a kind of social enterprise, a term which has surprisingly little real meaning. We think, on balance, that Foundation Trusts are a bit more democratic and accountable than the trusts which we had before, all of which, except Hinchingbrooke, were supposed to convert to Foundation Trust status by April 2014. The present government, however, seems to have given up on the idea. There is now little advantage in being a foundation trust, and no pressure to become one.
