Isobel Addison’s diary April – May 1929

Friday, 19th April, 1929

Michael had a merit holiday today.  Nursing Committee at the Vicarage at 5 o’clock.

Sunday, 21st April, 1929

Michael and Isobel and I went to church at 8.  I unfortunately fell in the road on the way home  and bashed my knee and sprained my foot  and broke my glasses. Hobbled home with the children’s help and after breakfast came to bed.

Sunday, 28th April, 1929

Stella came in the afternoon  and brought both the dogs.   Colin Clarke and his mother came just when the family had finished tea.  Brigit and Chris were here.

Friday, 3rd May, 1929

Isobel came home for the weekend arriving at 7 p.m.  I took my first walk and went up to the Nursing Association Annual meeting.  Kate and Bel walked up with me and it was rather fun.  Mrs. Ward came to make trouble and one or two others were a bit mucky, but we scotched them all very well.  I was jolly glad I had gone.  Kate and Michael came to meet me and helped me home.

Saturday, 4th May, 1929

Pop came home soon after 11.  Dr. Goulden paid me a final visit and gave me a prescription for rheumatics – something fresh to try.

Sunday,  5th May, 1929

I spent the afternoon lazily on my bed and didn’t go downstairs again.  Mrs. Hooper came to see me.

Monday, 6th May, 1929

Kate and Isobel left by the 9.16 for town.  Michael went up to stay with Mrs. Hooper tonight.

Tuesday, 7th May, 1929

Pop and I left Newton for Swindon by the 11.44.  Dunstan White met us and we went straight to Milton Road.  Found tea ready there and a very pleasant old landlady.
