SHA Labour Deputy Leader nomination poll
25% turnout.
Who do you wish the SHA to nominate for Labour Deputy Leader.
Abstentions = 15.6%
Bridget Phillipson = 18.3%
Lucy Powell = 66%
Congratulations, Lucy Powell wins SHA Nomination
From Lucy’s nomination statement to the SHA
” Nothing holds greater importance to our movement than the NHS, and protecting our NHS must always be the number one mission of any Labour Government. As a longstanding member of the SHA and being married to an A & E doctor I know the damage that successive Tory Governments have done to the NHS and the transformative difference a Labour Government can make. I do however share concerns about the increasing use of private companies to deliver NHS services, and believe that putting our NHS first must mean greater insourcing. This is how we deliver better care for patients. We have promised the greatest ever wave of insourcing as a Government and it is important we are seen to be delivering on that.“
Given the controversy about this highly restricted nomination process members were also asked:
Should the SHA make a complaint at the exclusion a socialist candidate?
Abst = 11%
Yes = 63%
No = 26%

Message to Labour’s nominations team at HQ
Dear Colleagues,
The SHA Central Council met tonight to receive a report about the polling of our members regarding the DL nomination.
During our consultation with our members they expressed overwhelming concern about this highly restricted nomination process which excludes some good socialist candidates. We strongly urge reform of the process to make it more inclusive.
We nominate Lucy Powell – nomination form appended.
Mark Ladbrooke
National Secretary
Socialist Health Association.
