Motion on Palestine: Stop Starving Gaza – to go to SHA Central Council
SHA London notes over 60,000 Palestinians have been killed in Gaza since October 2023.
70% are women and children. The Israeli government’s blockade of food and humanitarian
aid is causing widespread starvation to a population already displaced, traumatised and
under constant bombardment. The health sector has been targeted and decimated, along
with all public health infrastructure.
Over 1000 Palestinian civilians have been killed seeking food from private aid hubs, in what
the UN has described as the “weaponization of food” and a war crime.
We further note:
Israel is currently on trial for genocide at the ICJ and Netanyahu is wanted for
crimes against humanity and war crimes including the weaponisation of
starvation;
Over 130 NGO’s have called for an end to the deadly Israel-run food
distribution schemes (including that run by Gaza Humanitarian Foundation), a
return to pre-existing UN coordination mechanisms and complete lifting of Israel’s
blockade of aid and commercial supplies;
Britain, France and Canada have jointly promised ‘concrete actions’ if Israel
does not cease its military offensive in Gaza and lift its restrictions
on humanitarian aid.
We therefore urge the Government to take the following concrete actions:
immediately end all arms trade and military collaboration with Israel, including
termination of the NHS contract with Palantir;
ban all trade which aids Israel’s violations of international law, including trade
with Israel’s illegal settlements;
introduce a range of sanctions, including travel bans for Israeli government
ministers;
immediately and unconditionally recognise the state of Palestine.
