22 May: Labour on NHS crisis.

Good to see Labour address many of the important issues facing our healthcare system. However we can’t dodge an important issue: “the corporate capture of NHS commissioning structures must be undone. Every penny diverted to private healthcare companies is less for urgently needed healthcare to reduce waiting lists. We need a properly paid and equipped NHS workforce, we need to cancel the huge student debts that many young health professionals suffer.”

The even more acute crisis in Social Care shows the danger of fragmentation, privatisation and the asset stripping of what were public services. The most basic analysis of the current crisis shows one of the quickest paths to relieving pressure on the NHS is to rebuild a state social care system. It is NOT to follow to follow the same disastrous path of privatisation for the NHS.
